Planting Guide

PLANTING GUIDE

Step 1. Keep lilies wet

  • While preparing for planting, keeping the lilies wet is important so as not to allow the leaves to dry out.

Step 2. Planting container

  • Half fill your planting container with soil.

Step 3. Fertiliser tablets

  • Fertiliser tablets encourage new growth and provide nutrients for your aquatic plant.

  • Place one tablet for small containers and two tablets for larger containers into the soil.

Step 4. Planting and positioning

  • Create a planting hole in the centre of the container.

  • Position the lily so the rhizome is at a 45-degree angle with new growth emerging vertically in the centre of the container.

  • Spread the roots outwards to help them absorb nutrients.

Step 5. Add soil

  • Gently add soil around the roots and tamp down. Keep the growing crown (at top of root formation) free of soil.

Step 6. Cover soil with gravel

  • Gravel helps the soil from washing out of the pot.

  • Cover the soil with half an inch of thoroughly rinsed gravel. Take care not to cover the crown of the plant.

Step 7. Thoroughly saturate soil

  • Evenly saturate the pot with water. Allow debris to float out of the pot.

Step 8. Lower plant into water

  • First place a small pile of bricks at the bottom of your pond. Allowing your lily to be elevated a few inched higher will encourage spring growth and transplant recovery.

  • Gently lower the potted lily into your pond and onto the bricks.

Aftercare

  • As the lily grows, gradually lower it from the bricks until it finally rests on the floor of the pond (approximately 6" to 18" underwater).
Water lilies like calm waters, so make sure to position them away from sprays or fountains.

  • Water lilies are heavy feeders. Feed once or twice a month with fertiliser tablets for the best blooming results.

  • Discontinue feeding as temperatures cool.
